Have you ever damaged an iphone? The easiest way this kind of expensive gadget could develop some faults is through wetness. Water damage has become such a common problem among users of iphones. While most of the users take  good care of their gadgets, it is usually difficult for them to predict an accident. Some of these devices have even survived rolls and spins in the laundry washers.

So, if you are wondering if yours can survive the wetness, it would, depending on the severity of the water damage. What is more, any model of an iphone can survive, whether it is iphone 3GS OR 4 by following four imperative steps.

  • Keep your fingers away from the buttons. The iphone has to remain turned off. Turning on may quickly cause a short circuit, as water and electricity are never close friends. If the electronic parts burn due to the flow of electric charges over wet parts, there is no point on salvaging it.
  • Remove the gadget from its casing as well as its SIM card. Try to shake it at this point to force out the water from its interiors.
  • Even if you notice some drops coming out, the device is still very wet inside. You need to apply a better drying method than shaking. A hair blow dryer turned on low heat can facilitate blowing of air through the gadget. It must be on low heat not to melt the gadget’s inners. Keep on shaking the iphone as you blow the dryer.
  • After this, do not attempt to turn the gadget on as it might still be wet. Try another improvised drying method such as dipping it in a sack of raw rice. It has to stay in for two to three days if the gadget was in the phone for a few seconds. If it was submerged in water for more time, leave it in the sack for at least a week. For better servicing, you can swap between blow drying and dipping the device. Even shaking the gadget can still help, as you would see if any water would come out. Silica gel is a great substitute for rice and it is available in craft stores.
  • After being sure that the gadget has remained in the rice bag or silica gel  long enough, remove it and try to turn it on.

The above simple method has worked for several people and it could as well help you. Even though most gadgets work again, this may not mean that they cannot rust. If dropped in salty water, they will most likely corrode. Some people recommmend use of concentrated alcohol solution to prevent corrosion and get rid of all water.

If you are thinking of using the Iphone warranty, most likely it will not work because most manufacturers do not cover water damage. Some of them will however allow you to substitute a damaged phone for a refurbished style for a lower cost, of course. So, if you seek help from the producer, they will require something from you in return. They will charge you to have the phone checked or replaced. If not, they will charge you nothing for listening to your complains and rejecting them.
